Aluminum air cell

Al-air cells have been developed with great interests for their high performance, i.e. power, energy density. There may be a severe problem called “hypercorrosion” in alkaline electrolytes however well controlled using high purity (4N) aluminum plate anodes and the proper agents suppressing the excessive hydrogen evolution. However there are unpredictable failures in rare cases, and recommended to use as one-time continuous discharge, for example shoot and forget devices, or the more complicated systems with electrolyte drain-out function.

The cells are useful as emergency backup power for EV and UAV. The following drawing is the design for UAV.
